New Year, resolutions and more adventures

Back in Xela and missing home a bit I have to say. New Year made a quiet entrance, without too much fuss or excitement about it. It was a nice New Year’s Eve spent with the folks and one of my dearest friends and almost all of her family and friends of theirs. The salsa was so hot that I made an attempt to dance- on one foot and with lots of limping. My last days in New York before heading back were quite exciting and cold, with one day being the coldest this winter. Let’s just say, you couldn’t walk more than a block without feeling that some body part might freeze and fall off.

Resolutions this year- none really. But I felt compelled to come up with something. My first resolution is to not stop following my dreams and ambitions, no matter how strange and crazy they may sound to others and even me. My second resolution is to boycott this bakery called Xela Pan. The running joke here is to refer to it as Stale-a-Pan- their bread is not the freshest. I got sick and tired of going there for fresh bread, only to realize that it was day old bread (or even more, who knows!). I’ve found other bakeries to frequent.

The “being healthy and getting into shape” yearly resolution has been difficult to abide by so far this year. My hairline fracture of the cuneiform last month and hence, my side-kick for the past month (damn crutches), obviously have disabled me from doing much. I do miss those soccer days! I used to play on Mondays and Wednesdays with a nice bunch of people, local and foreigners, and it was co-ed as well. That and dancing was really my only form of physical activity. But I’ll be back in business again very shortly. I went to the hospital today and since I don’t have any pain anymore in my foot and have been able to move my toes and such, the doctor informed me that I won’t need any physical therapy and can begin walking without the crutches. Yippee! In as little as two to three weeks, I might be tearing up the dance floor. Soccer can wait a little longer.

All in all, it’s been quite an experience with these crutches for the last month and another unforgettable adventure and first for me!
